Awesome DIY Photo Canvas

My next projects was to put something on my leftover canvas. I search on Pintrest what I could do and low and behold, I found this. I ended up getting prints made at Sam's Club. I got one 16x20 for about $5.95, two 11x14 for $2.87 and two 8x10 for $1.46 each. All prints for $15.50. Not a bad deal at all! Sam's Club also prints in matte, which is what I recommend. I've head if you use glossy with mod podge, the picture will bubble up and not look very good. I had to buy the mod podge, but I used my 40% off coupon so I got it for about $2.50. I also got the 11x14 and 8x10 canvases from Hobby Lobby for about $10 for all of them. I cannot believe how SUPER easy these were to make!

I started by cutting the photos to be able 0.5 inches from the sides. I then covered the canvas and the back of the photo in mod podge, stuck the picture on the canvas and straightened it out. I then paint black acrylic paint with a sponge brush along the sides of the pictures. After that I mod podged the whole thing, let it dry then hung em up!

Frugal, Homemade Wooden Signs

So I've been eyeballing a particular project from Pintrest for some time. A friend of mine brought over some firewood to burn in my fire pit. We loaded it in the wheelbarrow and once I finally saw it, I knew I had to keep some!  So this is what I wanted to make. Sarah has so many great ideas as well as her followers that comment. So I tried EVERYTHING to make this work. Either the ink wouldn't transfer, or it wasn't dark enough. I used two different printers, heat, water, pressure...everything. My husband could see my frustration and gave me some suggestions...one of them was to just give up. I almost did, until I researched and found this. This was my saving grace. Had I not found Angela's blog, I would never had followed through with my project. Here's my pictures and success stories about my amazing signs.

The cost:
I picked up a couple of mis-tint samples at Lowe's for $0.75. I also splurged a bit and got a sample of a light blue color for $1.50.
The wood was free.
The ink was what I already had in the printer.
The wax paper came out of my cupboard.

I painted the sanded surface. I knocked most of the paint off the brush before I went to town. I was very careful not to completely paint all of the edges and some of the middle to give it that laid-out-behind-the-barn-forever look.

I cut out wax paper the size of the printer paper and taped the side that went down into the printer. Be sure to change your printer's settings to print the mirror. For me, I had to print it as an iron-on transfer for it to flip.

After printing, you have some time to get the newly printed wax paper to the board. I lined it up the best I could since I printed on 2 sheets. I then carefully placed it down being sure not to move the paper once I got it on the board. I then used a card to add pressure and flatten it out. I then carefully removed the paper in one solid motion.

Here is my finished product. It sits proudly on my buffet in my kitchen/dining room.

I didn't stop there, I also made a couple to go on each side of my window about my buffet table.

I nailed some regular nails into the top of the board and tied twine around them to make the hangers. Please let me know what you think! Feel free to send me your own antique boards.

Kitchen Curtains

I had some leftover fabric from my dining chairs makeover and decided to make a kitchen curtain. I picked up a simple valence pattern from Hobby Lobby and went to town. Here's my finished product.

I think the colors look stunning against my green walls! Let me know what you think.

My "buffet" table

So I have to share my newest find for the kitchen/dining room. I picked this up at an antique furniture store for $40. It goes perfect with my corner shelf, window and my old wine bottle opener!!

There's Bear in the corner :)

Let me know what you think about it!

Theater Room Art

So as many of you are aware of Pintrest, I found an awesome, easy project on there! I wanted to use the same color I used in the kitchen, my Brisk Olive green since I had some leftover. I went to Hobby Lobby and picked up some 2 pack canvas. I believe I paid $6.99 for the 2 pack. I ended up getting 4...about $3.25 each. I also had painters tape from painting the walls. Here is where you'll find the instructions on how to make them. I only used 3 of my 4. I'm just going to add some pictures of tips I have for the project (they can also be used for others).

I started by painting the whole canvas white

This was a neat trick I saw somewhere

Push pins so I could paint the sides without it sticking to the plastic

Taped off and ready to paint

I painted over the tape so if any paint seeped through it would be white, not color.
Painted the whole thing.

Finished and up on the wall in my theater room.
It adds a little color in there. I also just realized the green is very similar to the color that author of the blog I linked used. I think the contrasting colors in this room really works. I was glad to tie my Brick Olive into another part of the house. Happy painting!
